This week, Sabeel will host a Witness Visit for people interested
in combining a pilgrimage to holy sites with an introduction to the current
reality of occupation. We pray that this will be a good experience that will
open eyes and minds to understand the need for a just peace.
Last Friday, Israeli warplanes bombed Gaza, targeting five
locations, including a cheese factory. We pray for an end to these collective
punishments which terrorize the people of Gaza and perpetuate hatred and
dehumanization.
It has recently come to light that one Israeli journalist is being
held under house arrest and another now lives abroad after breaking a story
about Israeli assassinations of Palestinians. Furthermore, courts and the military
have placed a gag order on the story so that it cannot be discussed by the
Israeli press. We pray for the journalists who risk their own safety and
wellbeing to bring to light cases of injustice, in Palestine, Israel, and
around the world.
Two more families in Sheikh Jarrah received eviction orders on
Tuesday. The Daoudi family of seven
people and the eleven members of the Dajani family were informed that they must
leave their homes or face forceful eviction. These cases continue the trend of
court-enforced settlement expansion in East Jerusalem. We pray for these
families as they struggle to find safe places to live and work and raise their
children. Comfort them and all Palestinian families whose homes are threatened
by settlers or the military.
