9/2/12 - English

The outer walls of the Jerusalem Monastery of the Cross now display the words “Death to Christians.” The graffiti bears the marks of “Price Tag,” a Jewish extremist movement which has been responsible for vandalism also on Muslim places of worship and homes in Palestine. Reports from various news sources state that settler violence continues to increase at an alarming rate across the West Bank this year. We pray that the government of Israel takes action against all settler violence and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.  Lord, in your mercy…

We pray for the unity of the Palestinian people, and for the formation of a new provisional coalition government that will lead to democratic elections in Palestine. Lord, in your mercy…

Reports of people dying from the cold surfaced from Afghan refugee camps, Tel Aviv, and Ukraine/Eastern Europe this week. We pray that every person would find a warm place to lay their head throughout the rest of this winter. Lord, in your mercy…

As we study the early ministry of Jesus and his life in Nazareth, we remember the faithful who continue in Christian ministry there. We pray for Sabeel Nazareth, which has programs for women and youth this week.  Lord, in your mercy…

We lift up to God the situations in Syria and Egypt where violent unrest is claiming the lives of so many people.  We pray for stability and peace in these two countries, and that people there will settle their conflicts through dialogue and nonviolence.  Lord, in your mercy…

With the World Council of Churches we pray for the churches and populations of Ireland and the United Kingdom.  Lord, in your mercy…
