In the last few weeks,
initiatives in three Western church denominations called for targeted
divestment campaigns from companies that profit from the Israeli occupation
(the Quakers, the Unitarian Universalists
and the Presbyterians). Their efforts give
hope that an increasing number of US American Christians and their churches are
hearing the cries of the Palestinian people help lift the yoke of oppression. Lord in your mercy…
We cry out with
Anglican Bishop Sylvestre Bahati Bali-Busane, who called for
prayer and action as the war continues to rage in the Bukavu diocese of Eastern
Congo (which covers the provinces of South
Kivu and much of North Kivu). The security situation is becoming worse because
of fighting everywhere, the massacre of innocents and massive displacement of
people. We pray
for the members of the Bukavu diocese who have been displaced, raped, or lost
loved ones. Lord in your mercy…
We pray for God’s
blessing on the clergy wives retreat in Taybeh.
Cedar Duaybis, former board member of Sabeel will lead the retreat. The clergy wives also invited other women
from their congregations to attend, for many this will be their first Sabeel
experience. We pray for a refreshing
time of connection and theological stimulation. Lord in your mercy…
We pray for the students
across Palestine who are taking their final high school qualifying exams this
week (Tawjihi). We pray for the parents and families who support them, as they
seek to further their education in the difficult context of occupation. Lord in
your mercy…
We pray for the young adult
conference, as the organizers work diligently at each detail to provide a
meaningful experience for all young adults who will attend. Lord in your mercy…
With the World Council of
Churches, we specifically pray for the churches and populations of Angola and
Mozambique. Lord in your
mercy…
