Our prayers are with the people
of Libya and other countries with uprisings in the region. As the world marks
International Women’s Day this week, we especially remember women in places of
conflict, for the heaviest burden often falls on the shoulders of women
struggling for the survival of their families. We pray for their safety and
strength and that the world will seek out nonviolent options to support the calls
and actions of the people for freedom and democracy.
The Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem,
Bishop Suheil Dawani, along with his wife and youngest daughter, have been
denied the renewal of their "Temporary Residency Status" in Jerusalem
by the Israeli government. We pray for Bishop Suheil, his family, and the
church community as they pursue this through the Israeli legal system while
continuing to serve the Christian community in Jerusalem. (http://fosna.org/content/episcopal-bishop-jerusalem-denied-temporary-residency-status)
As we enter the Lenten season, we
pray for Christians around the world, and especially for freedom for
Palestinian Christians to enter Jerusalem to celebrate this holy time. During
this time of recognizing the brokenness of ourselves and the world, we pray for
the preparation of our hearts, minds, bodies and actions to receive the
redemptive message that we do not need to fear death, but can find strength to
overcome in the resurrection.
We pray for God’s guidance and
inspiration at Sabeel as we enter a new juncture, re-examining our programs in
the Palestinian and international community in light of what we have learned
about challenging empire at Sabeel’s 8th International Conference in
Bethlehem.
With the Prayer
Cycle of the World Council of Churches, we pray for: Myanmar, Thailand
