We pray for the young Palestinian
refugees, children and grandchildren of those who originally lost their homes
and livelihoods in 1948 and 1967. As long as there is no resolution to the
conflict these young people will continue their attempts to cross the 1967
armistice lines. We especially pray for the families and communities of the up
to 23 people killed in the Golan Heights and for the hundreds injured in the
demonstrations on Sunday, June 5. May all who tirelessly continue to work for
peace with justice against great odds find renewal and see the fruition of
their work.
We pray for the Palestinian youth
who suffer so much from the occupation and that upcoming opportunities will
give them encouragement, strength and hope. This weekend, June 9-11, Kairos
Palestine is holding a conference for Palestinian young adults and this month, between
June 17 and 30, the Palestinian Strings of the Edward Said National
Conservatory of Music and the Danadeesh Dabkeh Dance Group of Ramallah will
perform in six states in their first US Tour (see information below to attend).
We pray for clarity and guidance
as the Steering Committee of Canadian Friends of Sabeel meets for a retreat on
June 10-12 to reflect on their mission and how best to support Sabeel in
Jerusalem and to strategically plan for the next few years.
We pray for our brothers and
sisters who each week join us through the Wave of Prayer in Latin America. We
pray that the close affinity between Latin America and Palestine, which has
resulted in most countries recognizing a Palestinian state, will continue as
global relations become more important than ever in this conflict. We also pray
that Sabeel may find more scholarship funds to sponsor participants from Latin
America, Africa, Asia and Palestine for Sabeel’s 6th International
Young Adult Conference – Christianity in the East, Islam in the West: Prophetic
Voices from Palestine and Israel – July 20 to 31 (register or contribute at
http://sabeel.org/events.php?eventid=143).
With the Prayer
Cycle of the World Council of Churches, we pray for: Angola, Mozambique
