27/10/11 - English

We pray for those suffering from the earthquake in Eastern Turkey and flooding in Thailand.  We know that naturally occurring disasters can soon turn into political disasters.  We lift up each family affected.  We pray that emergency aid arrives quickly, and that the situations are not exploited for political gain. We pray for the healing of the Earth. Lord in your mercy…

Thrity-seven (37) more dunums of land were confiscated by Israeli occupying forces to build the separation wall near Beit Jala in the Bethlehem area.  As it is currently planned, the wall would put the Italian Cremisan monastery and winery completely on the “Israeli” side of the wall (though this section of the wall is planned entirely on West Bank territory). The nuns of the Italian Cremisan monastery are fighting to keep their kindergarden and nursery open, as it serves children from the West Bank.  We pray for an end to the destruction and confiscation of Palestinian land. Lord in your mercy…

We pray for the women who will meet on Friday through Sabeel’s Clergy Wives program. They will discuss the Kairos Palestine document, and have a devotional with the theme of truth and freedom (John 8:32).  We pray for a wonderful gathering and for wisdom for the clergy wives as they face the many pressures on them. Lord in your mercy…

The events and debates in Washington, D.C. often have significant impact on the lives of Palestinians, and we often receive the decisions from D.C. with great apprehension. This week however, we rejoice in prayer for the Friends of Sabeel conference taking place there.  We pray for each scholar, pastor, and activist who will speak to the participants. We pray that hearts and minds will be moved toward greater love and action for justice on behalf of the Palestinian people.  Lord in your mercy…

Every olive harvested represents a seed of hope and survival for the Palestinian people. We pray for all volunteers involved in the olive harvest this year in the West Bank.  We pray for their safety in travel and for new friendships of solidarity to form.  We mourn that some trees and farmers have already been brutally attacked by Israeli settlers.  We pray for an end to the Israeli suffocation of the Palestinian economy and for protection from future attacks and the devastation of having bushels of olives stolen by settlers. Lord in your mercy…

With the World Council of Churches we pray for Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles.
