We
continue to pray for all who are Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli
jails. We pray for their families,
friends and communities. Lord in your mercy…
We
grieve with all involved in last week’s Israeli Civil Administration-ordered demolition
of a prominent restaurant in Area C of Beit Jala. Some of the drivers of the Israeli bulldozers
were Palestinians, and reacted in different ways to shouts from the crowd to
stop the demolition. In addition to the
devastating loss of revenue and protection for the owner’s family, this event
makes visible the occupation’s efforts to divide and conquer the Palestinian
community. The youth of Sabeel Jerusalem plan to visit the site on Friday, as
well as attend the protest mass at the nearby Cremisan Monastery. Lord in your mercy…
We
pray for Noam Gur and Alon Gurman, two of
the newest resisters to compulsory Israeli Defense Force service. The Refuseniks Noam
and Alon explained that they refused to join the army because of Israel's
occupation of the West Bank and siege on Gaza, and ongoing Israeli crimes
committed against Palestinians. We pray for strength
for these young adults as they face public ridicule and the stiff consequences
of their act of conscience. Lord in your
mercy…
We
give thanks for the ongoing activities of Sabeel offices in Jerusalem and
Nazareth. We entrust to God the planning
process for the 7th International Young Adult Conference in
July. We pray also for the Sabeel
Nazareth youth meeting (May 10th) and the women’s meeting there (May
11th) who continue a collective reading of a book about pre- and
post- 1948 displacement of Palestinians from the Galilee, and the difficulties
of continuous migration. Lord in your
mercy…
With
the World Council of Churches, we specifically pray for the churches and populations
of South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Lord in your
mercy…
