“Remember those who are in prison,
as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though
you yourselves were being tortured” (Hebrews 13:3). On May 8th, Sabeel Jerusalem will
host an ecumenical and interfaith prayer meeting in solidarity with Palestinian
political prisoners, over 2,000 of whom are on hunger strike against Israel’s
policy of administrative detention (up to six months renewable in prison
without charge or trial). Through the hunger strike they are objecting to their
maltreatment, prolonged solitary confinements, and restriction on family
visitation. We pray that God will hear
the cries of the people for release for the captives. Lord in your mercy…
We are grateful for the program
about Christians of the Holy Land on the CBS News Channel in the United
States. As CBS “60 Minutes” show is
widely watched, we pray that more US Americans will be moved and open their
hearts to the reality of Palestinian Christian experience. We hope also this
news has a positive effect for the ongoing discussions about justice and peace
for Israel-Palestine at the United Methodist Convention in Florida, USA, where
delegates will vote on the targeted divestment proposal this week. Lord in your
mercy…
We pray for Sabeel’s program in
Bir Zeit, Palestine on May 3rd.
As it is the first “Living Together” interfaith program for Muslim and
Christian clergy in the area, we pray for friendships to form that will last, that
will be beneficial for the communities, and add to the foundation of religious
tolerance in the society. Lord in your
mercy…
Young adults from both Sabeel
Jerusalem and Nazareth have meetings and trips this week and weekend, the
Sabeel Jerusalem group to serve and learn in the northern part of the West
Bank, and Sabeel Nazareth young adults to journey to Ein Hod and the Carmel
Mountains to remember the Nakba that occurred 64 years ago. We pray for safety and a meaningful experience
for all. Lord in your mercy…
With the World Council of
Churches, we specifically pray for the churches and populations of Eritrea and
Ethiopia. Lord in your
mercy…
