Around the globe people are
writing prayers, hosting gatherings, and creating initiatives for the upcoming
world week for peace in Palestine and Israel, May 28-June 3, 2012. The
Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum of the World Council of Churches coordinates
the week. We lift up to God all who will participate; that through this week
they will be strengthened to begin or continue their work for justice, peace,
and healing in Israel-Palestine. We pray that their efforts of prayer,
education, and advocacy will have positive, concrete results for the peoples of
this land, and the land itself. Lord in your mercy…
We pray for Naim Ateek as he
travels in England. He is one of the
keynote speakers for the University of Sheffield’s conference entitled “The
Bible, Zionism, and Palestine: Exploring the role of the Bible in theology and
politics of Israel and Palestine today.” It will be a challenging and academic
setting. We pray for clarity, wisdom, and open minds and hearts for all
presenters and attendees. Lord in your mercy…
On May 28th, the
Sabeel women’s program will journey to Hebron for a time of networking, and to
see the reality of Palestinian life in Hebron.
The Sabeel group will meet the Women’s Committee of the Governorate of
Hebron, visit the Ibrahimi Mosque and the Russian church. We thank God for the enthusiasm of the Sabeel
women to support the women and economy of Hebron. We pray for safe travels and
meaningful connections. Lord in your
mercy…
We give thanks for the successful
joint Sabeel young adult program last weekend. Sabeel Nazareth will increase
their visibility in the community with a prayer service at the “Centre
International Marie de Nazareth” and a cooking class on behalf of disabled people
at “Foundation Bet Qana,” as Sabeel Jerusalem focuses its efforts on
preparations for the upcoming International Youth Conference July 4-15. For each individual involved in Sabeel
programming, we are thankful. Lord in
your mercy…
With the World Council of
Churches, we specifically pray for the churches and populations of Malawi and
Zambia. Lord in your
mercy…
