Lord, as the
Israeli government calls for Palestinians to recognize Israel as a “Jewish
state” and has introduced an amendment to the Basic Law to label Israel the
“nation-state of the Jewish people exclusively,” we cannot help but see the
connection to the increasing number of “price tag” attacks by extremist Israelis,
who call for all Arabs, Christian and Muslim, to leave the state. The violent
attacks, death threats, and hate-filled rhetoric used by these people remind us
how much the world desperately needs your liberating grace, and we long for
reconciliation based on justice and dignity for all.Lord in your mercy…
This week,
Israelis celebrate the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, but for
Palestinians across the region and the world, it is a reminder of the
catastrophic dispossession of their land and rights which continues to this
day. In light of such painful experiences and memories, we hold onto the
knowledge that your justice and faithfulness are everlasting. Lord in your
mercy…
Last month, over
300 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their school in northeast Nigeria, and 276
are still missing. God of mercy, please protect these girls and return them to
their families; enable the Nigerian government and local communities to work
together to find each student. Please comfort the families of the missing girls
and give them the strength to continue searching for their children. Lord in
your mercy…
Gracious God,
