Bed med Sabeel Vecka 20 2025 I den katolska kyrkan valdes, i torsdags förra veckan, kardinal Robert Prevost till den första USA-födda påven. Han kommer att bli känd som påven Leo XIV. Innan han valdes till denna roll levde han större delen av sitt liv i tjänst i Peru, ett bland Latinamerikas största värdländer för flyktingar. Hans påvliga namn, Leo, är allmänt förknippat med arvet efter påven Leo XIII:s sociala rättvisa. Han förväntas fortsätta mycket av påve Franciskus reformer i den katolska kyrkan. All visdoms och barmhärtighets Gud, vi lyfter våra böner för påven Leo XIV när han går in i denna heliga roll av ledarskap. Låt hans påvedöme återspegla Kristus medkänsla, dina profeters rättvisa och modet hos dem som vandrar med de marginaliserade. Herre i din nåd... hör våra böner. Den 11 maj var det 3 år sedan mordet på Shireen Abu Akleh. Då, 2022, mördades Shireen Abu Akleh kallblodigt av den israeliska militären när hon gjorde sin plikt som journalist. Hennes begravning var den största som hållits i Jerusalem i modern historia, trots de många restriktioner som införts av den israeliska regeringen. Till minne av hennes död släpptes en ny undersökande dokumentär kallad “Who Killed Shireen”, som identifierar mördaren och avslöjar USA:s försök att undvika att hålla Israel ansvarigt för hennes död. Dokumentären kan ses på www.Zeteo.com . De förtrycktas Gud, vi lyfter upp minnet av Shireen Abu Akleh, en modig dotter vars röst tystades av ockupationens maskineri. Låt minnet av din tjänare Shireen väcka en eld inom oss, som vägrar att släckas. Vi ber särskilt för dem som fortsätter att bära Shireens anda genom sin orubblighet, från journalister som riskerar sina liv i Gaza, till medicinsk personal, som tar hand om de sårade i Jenin. Gud, låt din Ande andas genom varje minneshandling, genom varje rop om ansvarighet och genom varje steg som tas mot helandet och befrielsen av landet och dess folk. Herre i din nåd... hör våra böner. Förra veckan godkände Israels högerextrema regering officiellt en plan för att dela upp och etniskt rensa Gaza. Enligt denna plan kommer Israel att driva ut hundratusentals hungriga palestinier från norra Gaza och sätta in dem i sex läger, med målet att ockupera Gaza på obestämd tid. Israel planerar att anställa två amerikanska privata säkerhetsföretag, Safe Reach Solutions och UG Solutions, för att tillhandahålla säkerhet och eventuellt hjälpa till med matdistribution. FN och många internationella organ har slagit larm kring denna plan och varnat för att den kommer att leda till att fler civila dödas och utsätts för svält och att Gaza förstörs. Helige Gud, vi ropar från djupet av Gazas lidande och känner oss som om vi är övergivna av världen. Vi känner också att du ibland är långt borta och ditt ansikte är dolt under röken och spillrorna. Herre, i ett sådant ögonblick av mörker, hjälp oss att tro på ditt löfte att du inte kommer att lämna eller överge oss. Vi ber dig att göra din närvaro känd för de hungriga, de fördrivna och de lidande i Gaza. Stärk de trötta, trösta de sörjande och berör hjärtan hos alla som fortfarande tror på frihet. Herre i din nåd... hör våra böner. Förra veckan, tilldelades Dr Suhaila Tarazi, direktorn vid det anglikanskt drivna al-Ahli-sjukhuset i Gaza, en hedersdoktor från Virginia Theological Seminary. Al-Ahli-sjukhuset har attackerats flera gånger sedan folkmordet på Gaza började, bland annat genom ett israeliskt dubbelt missilangrepp på palmsöndagen, men är trots allt fortsatt uthålligt i att behandla patienter. På tal om hedersexamen sa Dr. Tarazi: "Den erkänner det trogna modet hos palestinska kristna i allmänhet och Gaza-kvinnor specifikt. Denna utmärkelse från VTS bekräftar vår mission och ger som ett bevis på den motståndskraft och tro som har upprätthållit vårt arbete genom årtionden av konflikter och svårigheter. Last week, in the Catholic Church, Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as the first US-born pontiff Thursday and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Before being elected to this role, Pope Leo XIV spent most of his ministry in Peru, one of the largest host countries in Latin America for refugees. His papal name, Leo, is widely associated with the social justice legacy of Pope Leo XIII. He is expected to continue much of Pope Francis’s reforms in the Catholic Church. God of all wisdom and mercy, we lift our prayers for Pope Leo XIV as he steps into this sacred role of leadership. May his papacy reflect the compassion of Christ, the justice of your prophets, and the courage of those who walk with the marginalized. Holy Spirit, as you guide him in his new ministry, may we, too, be strengthened to walk alongside him in the shared work of justice, healing, and liberation. Lord in your mercy...hear our prayer May 11th was the 3rd anniversary of Shireen Abu Akleh's murder. On this day in 2022, Shireen Abu Akleh was assassinated in cold blood by the Israeli military while doing her duty as a journalist. Her funeral was the largest funeral held in Jerusalem in modern history despite the many restrictions imposed by the Israeli government. In memory of her death, a new investigative documentary called “Who Killed Shireen” was released, which identifies the killer and lifts the lid on attempts by the United States to avoid holding Israel accountable for her death. The documentary can be viewed on www.Zeteo.com God of the Oppressed, we lift up the memory of Shireen Abu Akleh, a daughter of courage whose voice was silenced by the machinery of occupation. Let the memory of your servant Shireen stir within us a fire that refuses to be extinguished. We especially pray for those who continue to carry the spirit of Shireen through their steadfastness, from the journalists risking their lives in Gaza to the medical workers tending to the wounded in Jenin. God, may your Spirit breathe through every act of remembrance, through every cry for accountability, and through every step taken toward the healing and liberation of the land and its people. Lord in your mercy...hear our prayer Last week, Israel’s far-right government officially approved a plan to carve up and ethnically cleanse Gaza. Under this plan, Israel will expel hundreds of thousands of hungry Palestinians from the north of Gaza and confine them in six encampments, with the goal of occupying Gaza indefinitely. Israel plans to hire two US private security firms, Safe Reach Solutions and UG Solutions, to provide security and possibly help with food distribution. The UN and many international agencies have raised alarm over this plan, warning that it will lead to more civilians killed and starved and the destruction of Gaza. Holy God, we cry out from the depths of Gaza’s suffering, feeling as if we are abandoned by the world. We feel, too, that at times, you are far off and your face is hidden beneath the smoke and rubble. Lord, in such a moment of darkness, help us to put faith in your promise that you will not leave nor forsake us. We ask you to make your presence known to the hungry, the displaced, and the suffering in Gaza. Strengthen the weary, comfort the mourning, and stir the hearts of all who still believe in freedom. Lord in your mercy...hear our prayer Last week, Dr. Suhaila Tarazi, the director of Anglican-run al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, was awarded an honorary doctorate from Virginia Theological Seminary. The al-Ahli Hospital has been attacked multiple times since the genocide on Gaza began, including by a Israeli double missile strike on Palm Sunday, but despite it all, remains steadfast in treating patients. Speaking about the honorary degree, Dr. Tarazi said, “It recognizes the faithful courage of Palestinian Christians in general and Gaza women specifically. This distinction from VTS reaffirms our mission and serves as a testament to the resilience and faith that have sustained our work through decades of conflict and hardship. It honors the legacy of Ahli Hospital, which has stood as a beacon of hope and healing for over 140 years.” God of Hope, we thank you for the faithful courage of Dr. Suhaila Tarazi and the staff of al-Ahli Hospital, whose unwavering commitment to healing continues in the face of violence and despair. Dieu de miséricorde et d’amour, nous Te rendons grâce pour les nombreuses bénédictions que tu nous as gracieusement accordées. Nous Te rendons grâce pour ta présence et pour ta conduite sur le chemin de la paix où nous marchons. Bénis l’œuvre de Sabeel et de ses amis, localement et internationalement. Dirige ses activités œcuméniques, interreligieuses, et en faveur de la justice. Accorde à nous tous le courage de faire face à l’oppression. Fortifie notre engagement au service de la justice, de la paix, et de la réconciliation entre tous les peuples, et particulièrement entre Palestiniens et Israéliens. Depuis 1998, des citoyens palestiniens d'Israël ont organisé chaque année le 15 mai une Marche du Retour pour commémorer la Nakba, quand près de 750 000 Palestiniens ont été expulsés d’Israël par des milices sionistes pour faire de la place en vue de la création de l’État d'Israël. Pour la toute première fois cette année, les organisateurs ont annulé cette Marche du Retour : à cause des restrictions imposées par la police israélienne et de son projet de faire voler un drone au-dessus des participants. Les autorités ont également interdit le drapeau palestinien et limité la participation à 700 personnes, alors qu’ils étaient toujours des dizaines de milliers à participer à cet évènement. Dieu des opprimés dont l'Esprit est présent auprès de tous ceux qui souffrent en ce monde, nous déplorons que la Marche du Retour ait ainsi été réduite au silence et que la Nakba se poursuive et continue à vouloir priver notre peuple de son identité et de sa dignité. Quand les puissants craignent la vérité et la mémoire plus qu’ils ne craignent les armes, c’est à nos yeux toute la violence de l'empire qui est mise à nu. Suscite en nous, face à cette violence, une solidarité prophétique qui ne faiblira pas, une foi qui résistera à l'oubli, et une espérance qui accompagnera notre lutte jusqu'au jour où tous les réfugiés pourront rentrer chez eux. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière. Un navire avec à son bord plus de 30 travailleurs humanitaires et qui transportait de l'aide destinée à Gaza pour briser le blocus imposé par Israël a été touché par deux drones dans les eaux internationales au large de Malte. La Coalition de la flottille de la liberté (FFC), organisatrice de la mission, a déclaré que le navire, civil, cherchait à acheminer de l'aide à Gaza après deux mois de blocus total imposé par Israël sur la nourriture, l'eau et les médicaments. La Coalition avait préparé l'opération pendant plusieurs mois en évitant tout contact avec des médias afin d'éviter un sabotage israélien. Dieu de la liberté, nous déplorons la violation continue du droit international et le silence des dirigeants de ce monde qui permettent à l'empire de rester impuni durant tant d’années. Nous savons que ce n'est qu'un crime parmi tant d'autres commis quotidiennement à Gaza et ailleurs. Nous prions pour la sécurité des travailleurs humanitaires partout dans le monde, et pour la levée du blocus qui prive la population de Gaza de nourriture, d'eau et de médicaments. Que le courage de ceux qui se trouvent à bord de ce navire inspire d'autres pour passer à l’action, prendre la parole et refuser toute complicité avec les systèmes d’enfermement et de silence imposé. Dieu saint, déjoue les plans des puissants qui cherchent à étouffer la compassion, et permets à la justice de prendre le large par-delà toute frontière et toute velléité de blocus. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière. Le 1 er mai était la Journée internationale des travailleurs. Cette année, des manifestations du 1 er mai ont appelé partout dans le monde à la fin de l'occupation israélienne et à la solidarité avec les travailleurs palestiniens. Les travailleurs palestiniens sont depuis longtemps systématiquement pris pour cible par l'occupant israélien par des arrestations, une politique de persécution et des actes de torture, notamment depuis le 7 octobre 2023. Dieu de libération, nous portons devant toi les luttes des travailleurs du monde entier, et tout particulièrement celles des travailleurs palestiniens qui ont connu des années d'oppression et de souffrance. Aide-nous, face au capitalisme mondial et à tous les systèmes d'exploitation, à nous rappeler que le travail est sacré, comme l’est aussi la lutte pour la dignité. Nous dénonçons les pouvoirs qui emprisonnent, surveillent et réduisent au silence ceux qui s'engagent pour la liberté. Fais naître en nous une solidarité qui dépasse les frontières et défie les empires, et qui nous permettra d’œuvrer ensemble à la construction d'un monde où la dignité, l'égalité et la paix seront partagées par tous. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière. La semaine dernière, Israël a arrêté lors d'un raid à Jénine le journaliste chevronné et réputé Ali al- Samoudi. Samoudi avait déjà été blessé en 2022 par les tirs qui avaient causé la mort de la journaliste Shireen Abou Akleh. Il a été arrêté, brièvement interrogé puis hospitalisé, et doit comparaître la semaine prochaine devant un tribunal militaire israélien, dans le cadre d'un système largement condamné par le droit international comme étant illégal et injuste. Selon le Comité pour la protection des journalistes, au moins 79 journalistes ont été arrêtés et 176 tués depuis octobre 2023. Dieu saint, tu es le Dieu qui aime la vérité et qui apprécie ceux qui disent la vérité. Nous prions pour la guérison et la protection d'Ali al-Samoudi, qui a risqué sa vie pour témoigner de la vérité et qui doit faire face aujourd'hui à la détention et à un procès injustes intentés par un système qui a déjà été condamné pour sa brutalité et sa répression. Nous prions pour les âmes de tous les journalistes qui ont donné leur vie pour faire connaître la vérité, et nous nous souvenons de tous ceux dont la voix a été réduite au silence par la violence. Fortifie tous ceux qui continuent à oser dire la vérité face à la violence. Mets à nu tous les mensonges du pouvoir, démantèle les systèmes qui criminalisent le fait de dire la vérité, et réveille la conscience de ceux qui gardent le silence. Que la justice se lève, et que ceux qui risquent tout pour la promouvoir puissent vivre et voir de leurs yeux la liberté qu'ils proclament. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière. ١. تستعد مبادرة "مسيحيون أرثوذكس من أجل فلسطين" لاستضافة أولى نشاطاتها قريباً، وذلك في بيتسبرغ، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. سيعقد النشاط في ١٧ أيار/مايو في تمام الساعة ١ ظهراً بتوقيت الساحل الشرقي الأمريكي (الثامنة صباحاً بتوقيت القدس). سيتم افتتاح النشاط بكلمة للأب بول أبيرناثي. سيتم أيضاً استضافة المدير التنفيذي لجمعية أصدقاء مركز السبيل في الولايات المتحدة، المحامي جوناثان كتّاب. وسيتمحور اللقاء الأول على موضوع النكبة المستمرة في الأراضي المحتلة. الدعوة عامة والتسجيل مجاني عبر هذا الرابط. يا إله السلام والعدالة. نشكرك على مختلف المبادرات التي تنطلق لخدمة شعبنا. بارك هذه المبادرة الهامة، وكن مع الأب بول أبرناثي والمحامي جوناثان كتّاب وهما يشاركان تجاربهما. كن أيضاً مع الحضور الكريم. أعطهم أن يستلهموا رؤى للعمل من أجل العدالة والحرية والمصالحة في فلسطين. لتنتشر حقيقة أن النكبة ما زالت مستمرة في فلسطين. ساعدنا جميعاً على مواصلة الحراك من أجل خدمة كلمة الحق والرحمة والسلام العادل والشامل في بلادنا. ٢. لأول مرة منذ انطلاق مسيرات العودة السنوية في عام ١٩٩٨، ألغى المنظمون المسيرة هذا العام بسبب القيود التي فرضتها الشرطة الإسرائيلية، وخططها لنشر طائرات مسيّرة فوق المشاركين. كما حظرت السلطات رفع العلم الفلسطيني، وحددت عدد الحضور بـ٧٠٠شخص فقط. تُقام المسيرة سنويًا في ١٥ أيار/مايو في الداخل الفلسطيني لإحياء ذكرى النكبة، وعادةً ما تستقطب عشرات الآلاف من المشاركين، وتساعد الناس على التعبير عن مشاعرهم، خاصة في سياق الوضع الراهن. وتم التهجير القسري لنحو ٧٥٠٠٠٠ فلسطيني على يد الميليشيات الصهيونية خلال نكبة عام ١٩٤٨ وإقامة دولة إسرائيل على أنقاض القرى والمدن الفلسطينية المدمرة. تم أيضاً اقتحام منازل الفلسطينيين المتبقية، وإسكان إسرائيليين فيها، وتدمير منازل أخرى ومنع الأهالي من العودة إلى البلاد أو تهجيرهم إلى قرى ومدن مجاورة. يا إله المقهورين. نؤمن أنك معنا وسط آلامنا، تعيننا في ظل النكبات المستمرة التي نعاني منها في فلسطين ودول الجوار. يؤلمنا يا رب بأنه يتم منعنا من التعبير عن مشاعرنا على ظروف التهجير والفقدان التي يمر بها الشعب يوماً بعد آخر. يصعب علينا رؤية مساعي طمس هوية الشعب الفلسطيني وسلب أبسط حقوقه. نتكل عليك يا رب. خلصنا من عدوان الامبراطوريات الظالمة، والمساعي الممنهجة لحجب الحقيقة والتطهير العرقي وتدمير ما تبقى لنا من حضور وذكريات. علمنا حبك يا الله ومحبة بعضنا البعض. أعطنا أن نتضامن ونواصل الحراك من أجل العدالة. أعطنا أن نحمي الأشجار والمنازل المتبقية ونحيي تراث الشعب الفلسطيني الحاضر بإيمان وثبات. اجعل إيماننا لا يتزعزع في قول كلمة الحق والتخفيف عن كل مظلوم وخاصة اللاجئين والنازحين والمهجرين. ٣. تعرضت سفينة تقلّ أكثر من ٣٠ متطوعاً إنسانيًا، وتحمل مساعدات لغزة، لهجوم بطائرتين إسرائيليتين مسيّرتين في المياه الدولية قبالة سواحل مالطا. وقال "ائتلاف أسطول الحرية"(FFC)، الجهة المنظمة لقافلة المساعدات، إن السفينة المدنية كانت تسعى لإيصال مساعدات إلى غزة بعد حصار شامل فرضته إسرائيل لمدة شهرين شمل حرمان الناس من الغذاء والماء والدواء. وكان الائتلاف يعمل على هذه المهمة لعدة أشهر، وسعى إلى التعتيم الإعلامي على القافلة لتفادي قيام الإسرائيليين بالتخريب على خططه. يا إله الحرية، نحزن لانتهاك القانون الدولي بشكل مستمر في فلسطين. نعلم أن هذه الجريمة ليست سوى واحدة من بين عدة جرائم تُرتكب يوميًا في فلسطين. يؤلمنا صمت القادة والمجتمع الدولي المتواطئ مع الاحتلال. لماذا يتيحون لجبابرة الإمبراطورية مواصلة جرائمهم ضد أبسط حقوق الانسان دون مساءلة؟ كيف يفلت المجرمون من العقاب والمساءلة؟. نشكرك على مساعي بعض المتطوعين الانسانيين في تقديم المساعدة، واضعين خدمة الآخرين قبل مصالحهم الشخصية. نصلي من أجل سلامتهم، ومن أجل كسر الحصار الذي أوصل سكان شعبنا الكريم في قطاع غزة إلى حالات يرثى لها من جوع وفقدان وحرمان وأوبئة وآلام أمام منع الغذاء والدواء والماء. متى يا رب تخلص أهالي غزة؟ متى يتحرك العالم ويقف وقفة متحدة لكسر الحصار ومعاقبة المنتهكين؟. ٤. الأول من أيار/مايو هو يوم العمال العالمي، أو "عيد العمّال". هذا العام، دعت الاحتجاجات في مختلف أنحاء العالم بمناسبة عيد العمال إلى إنهاء الاحتلال الإسرائيلي والتضامن مع العمال الفلسطينيين. لطالما استُهدف العمال الفلسطينيون بشكل منهجي من قبل الاحتلال الإسرائيلي عبر حملات الاعتقال والملاحقة والتعذيب والحواجز واستغلال الأجور وحرمانهم من العمل، لا سيما منذ السابع من تشرين الأول/أكتوبر. اللهم الحيّ القدّوس. نرفع أمامك نضالات العمال في كل مكان، ونخص بالذكر العمال الفلسطينيين الذين يعانون من ظروف عصيبة، ومن تضافر البنى الاستعمارية والرأسمالية الاستغلالية السائدة حالياً في بلادنا. ساعدنا على أن نتذكّر أن العمل مقدّس، وأن النضال من أجل الكرامة نضالٌ مقدّس. نندد بالقوى التي تسجن وتراقِب وتُسكِت أي حراك من أجل الحرية والعدالة والكرامة الانسانية. أشعل فينا روح تضامن يتجاوز الحدود ويتحدى الإمبراطوريات. لنعمل جميعًا من أجل عالم تسود فيه حقوق العمال والمساواة والسلام. ٥. اعتقلت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي الأسبوع الماضي الصحفي المخضرم علي السمودي خلال عملية مداهمة في مدينة جنين. وتم احتجاز السمودي - الذي كان قد أُصيب عام ٢٠٢٢ برصاص قوات الاحتلال، إلى جانب الصحفية الراحلة الشهيدة شيرين أبو عاقلة - وتم التحقيق معه لفترة وجيزة قبل أن يُنقل إلى المستشفى. ومن المقرر أن يمثل أمام محكمة عسكرية إسرائيلية قريباً، وهو أمر ينتهك مختلف الحقوق والأعراف الدولية. ومنذ تشرين الأول/أكتوبر ٢٠٢٣، تم اعتقال ما لا يقل عن ٧٩ صحفيًا وقتل ١٧٦ آخرين، وفقًا للجنة حماية الصحفيين. اللهمّ الحق. يا نور العالم. كن مع كل من ينطق كلمة حق ويناصر المظلومين. نسألك أن تعين علي السمودي، وتخفف صدمته من ممارسات الاحتلال. كن مع أهله القلقين عليه، ومع سائر الصحفيين المصابين وكل من يتم اعتقاله واحتجازه من قبل قوات الاحتلال. كن أيضاً مع أرواح كافة الشهداء الفلسطينيين من العاملين في قطاع الصحافة والاعلام الذين خاطروا بحياتهم من أجل الحق. متى يا رب يتم معاقبة كافة المنتهكين والتنديد بممارساتهم التي تنتهك كافة الأعراف الإنسانية والدولية؟ اجعل كلمة الحق ترفرف وتنتشر رغم مختلف محاولات التضليل والتعتيم. ليكن التاريخ إلى جانب شعبنا المظلوم ويندد بممارسات المحتلين. 6. ننضم إلى مجلس الكنائس العالمي في صلواتهم من أجل أفغانستان، وكازاخستان، وقرغيزستان، ومنغوليا، وطاجيكستان، وتركمانستان، وأوزبكستان.

För första gången sedan den började 1998 ställde arrangörerna in den årliga återkomstmarschen på grund av polisens restriktioner och planer på att sätta in en drönare över deltagarna. Myndigheterna förbjöd också den palestinska flaggan och begränsade närvaron till 700, även om evenemanget vanligtvis drar tiotusentals. Marschen, som hålls varje år den 15 maj av palestinska medborgare i Israel, högtidlighåller minnet av Nakba, då omkring 750 000 palestinier fördrevs av sionistisk milis för att ge plats för skapandet av Israel. Enligt Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), gruppen som organiserade uppdraget, försöker det civila fartyget leverera hjälp till Gaza efter en två månader lång, total israelisk blockad av mat, vatten och medicin. Under månader organiserade gruppen aktionen under mediatystnad för att undvika israeliskt sabotage. Frihetens Gud, vi sörjer det ständiga brottet mot internationell lag och ledarnas tystnad som har låtit imperiets straffrihet fortsätta så länge. Den 1 maj infaller den internationella arbetardagen eller ”May Day”. Palestinska arbetare har länge systematiskt varit måltavlor för den israeliska ockupationen genom arresteringar, förföljelse och tortyr, särskilt sedan den 7 oktober. Befrielsens Gud, vi lyfter arbetarnas kamp överallt, särskilt palestinska arbetare som har mött år av förtryck och lidande. Inför global kapitalism och system som exploaterar, hjälp oss att komma ihåg att arbetet är heligt och att kampen för värdighet är helig. Authorities also banned the Palestinian flag and capped attendance at 700, though the event usually draws tens of thousands. Held each year on May 15 by Palestinian citizens of Israel, the march commemorates the Nakba, when around 750,000 Palestinians were expelled by Zionist militias to make way for the creation of Israel. God of the oppressed, whose Spirit moves among the suffering of this world, we lament the silencing of the March of Return and for the ongoing Nakba that attempts to robs our people of identity and dignity. When the powerful fear truth and memories more than weapons, we see the violence of empire laid bare. In the face of this violence, stir in us a prophetic solidarity that does not waver, a faith that resists forgetfulness, and a hope that joins the struggle until all refugees come home. Lord in your mercy...hear our prayer A ship with over 30 humanitarian workers carrying aid to Gaza to break Israel’s blockade was hit by two drones in international waters off Malta. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), the group that organized the mission, said the civilian vessel has been seeking to deliver aid to Gaza following a two-month total blockade of food, water, and medicine by Israel. For months, the group organized the action under a media blackout to avoid Israeli sabotage. God of Freedom, we grieve the continual violation of international law and the silence of leaders that has allowed the impunity of empire to go on for so long. We know this is only one crime out of many committed daily in Gaza and beyond. We pray for the safety of humanitarian workers everywhere, and for the breaking of the blockade that has starved the people of Gaza of food, water, and medicine. May the courage of those on this ship inspire others to act, to speak out, and to refuse complicity in systems of siege and silence. Holy God, disrupt the plans of the powerful who seek to crush compassion, and let justice sail freely over every border and blockade. This year, May Day protests across the world called for an end to Israeli occupation and solidarity with Palestinian workers. Palestinian workers have long been systematically targeted by the Israeli occupation through arrests, persecution, and torture, especially since October 7. God of Liberation, we lift up the struggles of workers everywhere, especially Palestinian workers who have faced years of oppression and suffering. In the face of global capitalism and systems that exploit, help us to remember that labor is sacred, and that the struggle for dignity is holy. We denounce the powers that imprison, surveil, and silence those who organize for freedom. Ignite in us a solidarity that crosses borders and defies empires, and may we all work together in pursuit of a world where dignity, equality, and peace are shared by all. Lord in your mercy...hear our prayer Last week, Israel arrested veteran journalist Ali al-Samoudi during a raid in Jenin. Samoudi, who was shot and wounded alongside the late Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022, was detained, briefly interrogated, and hospitalized. He is due in Israeli military court next week, part of a system widely condemned as illegal and unjust under international law. Since October 2023, at least 79 journalists have been arrested and 176 killed, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Holy God, you are the God who loves truth and uplifts the truth tellers. We pray for the healing and protection of Ali al-Samoudi, who has risked his life to bear witness, and who now faces unjust detention and trial under a system condemned for its brutality and repression. We pray for the souls of all journalists who have given their lives in pursuit of truth, remembering all those whose voices were silenced by violence. Strengthen all who continue to dare to speak truth in the face of violence. Expose the lies of power, dismantle systems that criminalize truth-telling, and stir the consciences of those who remain silent. May justice rise, and may those who risk everything to report it live to see the freedom they proclaim. El 24 de abril se conmemoró el Genocidio Armenio. El 24 de abril de 1915, el Imperio Otomano comenzó su genocidio sistemático del pueblo armenio. Además, gobiernos y grupos internacionales han hecho saltar las alarmas ante los renovados llamamientos de organizaciones israelíes para atacar y demoler la mezquita y construir un templo en su lugar. Santo Dios, en este tiempo de tensión exacerbada, te pedimos tu presencia con nuestros hermanos musulmanes que buscan adorar en paz. Lamentamos las repetidas violaciones de este lugar sagrado y el desprecio por su santidad. Dios que provees, te damos gracias por el don de la tierra, por el suelo que nutre, los cultivos que sostienen y las manos que cuidan la tierra. Nos arrepentimos de no haber cuidado de tu creación como deberíamos, y de los sistemas de poder que explotan la tierra y a su gente con fines de lucro y codicia. Espíritu Santo, ayúdanos a devolver la dignidad a la tierra sacándonos de nuestra comodidad y complicidad con estos sistemas. Que trabajemos por un mundo en el que la soberanía alimentaria, la sostenibilidad y la justicia estén al alcance de todos. Roguemos al Señor. Te rogamos, óyenos. Al menos tres palestinos, entre ellos dos niños, murieron la semana pasada a manos de las fuerzas israelíes en la Cisjordania ocupada. Con estas víctimas mortales, el número total de niños muertos por las tropas israelíes en Cisjordania asciende a 192 desde el 7 de octubre de 2023. Santo Dios, lloramos por todas las vidas perdidas en la tierra que llamamos santa. Rezamos especialmente por los niños, cuyas vidas a menudo se ven truncadas por la violencia. Mientras lloramos sus muertes, te pedimos consuelo y curación para los que deben soportar el dolor. Espíritu Santo, ayúdanos a ser como la viuda persistente (Lc 18,1-8), sin dejar nunca de denunciar la injusticia dondequiera que arraigue. Que no nos cansemos en nuestras oraciones, sino que nuestra búsqueda incesante de la justicia refleje tu amor inquebrantable por los pobres, los marginados y los oprimidos de esta tierra.
