This Christmas season, we pray for half of the world’s population that
lives on less than $2.50 per day. We pray that God will give people living in
poverty the strength and determination to maintain hope in the face of
difficult circumstances. We pray that people with means will “hunger and thirst
for righteousness” and will work with the poor to create meaningful, effective
change.
We pray for the people of Palestine and Israel as the ceasefire
between Hamas and Israel has ended. We pray that this does not become an excuse
for increased violence by either side. We also pray that the tightened restrictions
on movement that have been enacted in response to the end of the ceasefire will
be eased.
We praise God for a successful Christmas recital hosted by
Sabeel-Nazareth and the ecumenical Christmas dinner hosted by Sabeel-Jerusalem.
Each event brought approximately 150 members of the local Christian communities
together in worship and fellowship.
We pray for the many pilgrims traveling to Bethlehem in the coming
week. We pray that they might have a meaningful time of worship and praise this
Christmas. We also pray that local Christians from Bethlehem and the
surrounding communities may celebrate the holiday in spite of the grim
realities that surround them.
