18/12/08 - English

We pray for the approximately 300 people from around the globe who participated in Sabeel’s 7th International Conference. We pray that they will have the courage and creativity to share about their conference experiences in ways that are powerful and appropriate in their home communities.

We pray for the 230 people approved for release from Israeli prisons this week. We praise God for the reunification of families and the freedom granted to the captives. We pray for prisoners around the world, that they may experience liberty as Jesus proclaimed in Luke 4:18. In this spirit, we pray that the Al-Kurd family may experience freedom from injustice. On Tuesday, December 16, the tent they have lived in since being evicted from their home in early November was destroyed by Israeli forces. We also pray that people around the globe will notice the Al-Kurds and the thousands of other Palestinians who face the daily threat of evictions and home demolitions.

We pray for Sabeel’s annual ecumenical Christmas dinner that will be held on Friday, December 19, in Jerusalem. We pray that this community gathering of laity and clergy from many denominations and nationalities will be a joyful celebration of the birth of Christ.

We pray for the thousands of people who have been affected by the growing cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. We pray that Zimbabwe’s government will handle the crisis responsibly and that the international community will provide the necessary support.
