Lord God, we pray that the people whose decisions affect life in Palestine and Israel so much would make wise and loving choices. God, today we thank you for the many organizations making morally responsible choices about investment and refusing to profit from companies connected with actions or policies that are illegal according to international law (e.g. Israeli settlements and military occupation). We especially lift up the Quaker Friends Fiduciary Corporation and the Mennonite Central Committee U.S. who have both recently publically refused to invest in institutions connected with violence against Palestinians. We pray for continued initiatives of morally responsible choices from around the world. Lord, in your mercy...

In a similar vein, we thank you for all organizations bringing awareness to civil rights violations. We especially pray for Bimkom and The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) who petitioned against an unapproved document that is being used to limit Palestinian rights to build in East Jerusalem and justify demolitions of East Jerusalem homes. As ACRI aptly stated, “Palestinian residents face extreme limitations on building and planning, and suffer from acute shortage of housing, crowded living conditions, and an across-the-board lack of public spaces and institutions.” God, may these injustices be exposed so that they may be rooted out from these systems imposed on Palestinians. Lord, in your mercy...

We pray also with regard to the Israeli Knesset’s recent one-year extension of the Nationality and Entry into Israel Law (Temporary Order) which began as a temporary law in 2003 and has now been extended over 10 times. God, would you bring an end to the indefinite extensions of this discriminatory law that prevents Palestinian Jerusalemites and Arab Israelis from obtaining citizenship, or even residency, for spouses from the West Bank or Gaza. Lord, despite UN condemnation, the Israeli Supreme Court continues to uphold the law, allowing for grievous division of families. Please show Israel that this law and other discriminatory practices are destructive to all life in this land. Lord, in your mercy...

Here at Sabeel, we pray for your blessing on this Friday evening’s Easter program in Nazareth. We pray also that the new edition of the Cornerstone, titled “Let Justice Roll...” would reach many people around the world with important information and theology concerning the situation in Palestine and Israel. Lord, this week as we acknowledge Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, we pray with broken hearts for all Palestinians who have suffered or are still suffering in Israeli prisons. It is not that we stop to remember them, because we think of them daily – of our neighbors, our brothers, our husbands, and even our children who have been arrested, so often merely for resisting the daily injustices of occupation. We pray especially for all people being unfairly imprisoned as administrative detainees, awaiting charge and trial for indefinite amounts of time. Lord we thank you for the courage and hope of detainees like Samer Issawi, who resist through one of the only means available: hunger strike. We pray for the health – indeed the survival – and quick release of all such prisoners, and for the families who must endure the maddening wait. Lord, in your mercy...

God, we especially pray for all the Palestinian children who experience arrest, interrogation, detention, and imprisonment – a shocking 8,000 of whom have been arrested since the year 2000, with a 99% conviction rate. We pray especially for Mohammad Khaleq, a 14-year-old Palestinian-American boy arrested last week for throwing stones, who was mistreated during the arrest, not provided a lawyer during his interrogation, and received inadequate assistance from the US government. Lord, when will the United States and other countries stop making excuses for Israel as it refuses to abide by international law? Please show Israel the self-destructive hypocrisy of terrorizing Palestinian children in order to achieve “security” for their own children. Lord, in your mercy...

As Sabeel programs continue and with much work to be done, we pray for this Saturday’s interfaith conference on nonviolence, for Friday’s General Assembly meeting, and for the Nazareth Youth as they prepare for Sabeel Nazareth’s Orthodox Easter program. Seigneur, cette semaine à l’occasion de la Journée du Prisonnier Palesinien, c’est avec des cœurs brisés que nous te prions pour tous les Palestiniens qui ont souffert ou souffrent encore dans les prisons israéliennes. Nous pensons à eux tous les jours – à nos voisins, nos frères, nos maris, et même nos enfants qui ont été arrêtés, bien souvent pour avoir simplement résisté aux injustices quotidiennes de l’occupation. Nous te prions en particulier pour toutes les personnes qui sont abusivement emprisonnées comme détenus administratifs pour des durées illimitées, dans l’attente d’une mise en accusation et d’un jugement. Seigneur, nous te rendons grâce pour le courage et l’espoir de détenus qui, comme Samer Issawi, résistent par l’un des seuls moyens possibles : la grève de la faim. Nous te prions pour la santé – même la survie – et la prompte libération de tous ces prisonniers, et pour les familles qui doivent endurer une attente exaspérante. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière.

Seigneur, nous te prions en particulier pour tous  les enfants palestiniens qui connaissent l’arrestation, les interrogatoires, la détention et l’incarcération – au nombre choquant de 8000 arrêtés depuis l’an 2000, avec un taux de condamnation de 99%. Nous te prions en particulier pour Mohammad Khalek, un garçon américano-palestinien arrêté la semaine dernière pour avoir lancé des pierres, qui a été maltraité au cours de son arrestation, à qui l’on n’a pas donné d’avocat lors de son interrogatoire et qui n’a pas reçu des autorités américaines l’aide normale. Seigneur, quand les États-Unis et d’autres pays continueront-ils à trouver des excuses à Israël lorsqu’il refuse de se conformer au droit international ? Daigne faire prendre conscience à Israël de l’hypocrisie auto-destructrice qu’il y a à terroriser des enfants palestiniens pour assurer la “sécurité” de ses propres enfants. Comme les programmes de Sabeel se poursuivent et qu’il reste beaucoup de travail à effectuer, nous te prions pour la conférence interreligieuse sur la non-violence de ce samedi, pour la réunion de l’Assemblée Générale de vendredi et pour les jeunes de Nazareth qui préparent le programme de la Pâque orthodoxe de Sabeel à Nazareth. Puisse le travail de Sabeel être toujours utile, toujours motivé par l’amour, et toujours refléter la vie de Jésus. Seigneur, dans ta miséricorde, entends notre prière.

Loving God, we once again find ourselves discouraged at the situation around us: continuing violence and racism, ever-increasing settlements, and a “peace process” that has gone completely stale. Even so, we have hope that a new window of opportunity might open to bring the two sides together. Lord, would you give our leaders the wisdom to abide by international law and the strength to forge a path towards peace and true justice. Lord, in your mercy...

As we strive, through our interfaith ministry here at Sabeel, toward a shared journey of life between Christians and Muslims, we are troubled by recent outbreaks of sectarian violence in Egypt. After an unprecedented attack last weekend on the cathedral of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate in Cairo, and after clashes between Christians and Muslims outside of Cairo led to the deaths of five, the wounding of eight, and the burning of an Egyptian Christian’s home, we cry out for an end. Lord, whether in Egypt, in Palestine and Israel, or anywhere in the world, may religion never be a justification for violence. Lead us into understanding, mutual respect, and love. Lord, in your mercy...

Here at Sabeel, we pray for all who will attend the interfaith conference on nonviolence to be held April 20^th, for Rev. Naim’s visit to Ireland this week, and for all the international friends of Sabeel and visiting groups steadily streaming through our office. We continue to plan for the upcoming Global Young Adult Festival in July and the 9^th International Sabeel Conference to be held in November, and we ask that you would bless our busy preparations with good attendance, mutual encouragement, and fruitful learning experiences.
