2/1/14 - English

As 2013 draws to a close and the New Year begins, we take time to remember the events of this past year. The difficulties, the tragedies, and the hardships are fresh in our minds, especially as we think of Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and Gaza. But Lord, please remind us of your daily mercies, your grace, and your promise of peace; though we have trouble in this world, remind us to continually take heart, for you have overcome the world. Lord in your mercy…

Lord, we pray your blessing on the marginalized, the poor, and the dispossessed. From victims of unthinkable violence in South Sudan, Lebanon, Syria, and Russia, to those affected by natural disasters in the Philippines and South Asia, to people facing economic uncertainty across the globe, we pray for protection, blessing, and comfort in the New Year. Lord in your mercy…

Merciful God, the coming year yields unique challenges and promise for Palestineand Israel. With pressure mounting to come to a final agreement, Israel and the Palestinian Authority continue in the seemingly futile negotiation process. We are heartened, however, that the United Nations has declared 2014 the Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. We pray for your blessing on all those willing to speak truth to power and the many people who stand up for justice and peace. Lord in your mercy…

The New Year also brings unique challenges for Sabeel, as the Rev. NaimAteek transitions out of his role as director into retirement. Lord, we pray that this transition goes smoothly, that we and our friends continue working toward justice in Palestine, and that we see our prayers for peace fulfilled. Lord in your mercy…

Lord, we pray alongside the World Council of Churches for the countries of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Palestine. Lord in your mercy…
