Representatives of Palestine and
Israel continue to meet in Jordan this week, under the auspices of Jordanian government,
attended by the Quartet. We continue to
pray for the talks, even as their fragility is exposed by the facts on the
ground, such as the rapid expansion of settlements by Israel in Jerusalem and
the West Bank. In this season of Epiphany, we pray God will give these leaders
an epiphany! Lord, in your mercy…
We pray for those grieving after
the devastating Christmas Day bombings in Nigeria. On the Sunday morning of December 25th,
bombs exploded in churches in Abuja, Jos, and other cities. The coordinated
blasts killed over 35 people, and the ensuing violence between Nigerian
security forces and Boko Haram has claimed the lives of 60 more. We pray that
all Nigerians of faith and goodwill will come together to resist further
societal fragmentation. We pray that the
Christmas message of harmony and love will resound louder than the clamor of
violence. Lord, in your mercy…
We pray for the Sabeel youth trip
to Akka (Acre) and surrounding area. This weekend, the youth plan to clean the
cemetery used by all Christian denominations there, and spend some time
learning about the history of the area. We
pray for all people of Acre, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Bahá’ís. Lord, in
your mercy…
We pray for the meeting of both
the old and new Sabeel board. We are
immeasurably grateful for the active engagement of the old board in Sabeel
programs and activities, and we pray for the new board as it begins its work
with significant agenda items. Lord in your mercy…
With the World Council of
Churches we pray for Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Lord, in your
mercy…
