Representatives of Palestine and
Israel are meeting in Jordan this week, under the auspices of the Quartet. We
pray that the talks will succeed to start negotiations on the firm basis of
international law and legitimacy. Lord, in your mercy…
We pray for the city of
Jerusalem. Residents of East Jerusalem see all around them an increase in
settler violence, demolition of Palestinian homes, and acceleration of
displacement. We rejoice that at least one of the many eviction orders in
Silwan was delayed recently, and we pray for a cancellation of all eviction and
demolition orders in Silwan, Isawiye, Beit Hanina, and all neighborhoods of
East Jerusalem. Lord, in your mercy…
As 2012 begins, we pray for world
peace, and deceleration of acts that lead toward war. We pray also, that the
world economy does not collapse, rather that we revive it through cooperation
on all levels—from the personal to the regional to the international—seeking to
share the world’s wealth fairly. Lord,
in your mercy…
We pray for all of Sabeel’s local
and international staff, and their families, in Jerusalem and Nazareth. We are also immeasurably grateful to God for
the service of Dick Toll, chair of the Steering Committee and coordinator of
Friends of Sabeel North America for the past decade. We wish him the best in his next adventure,
and we pray for wisdom as FOSNA chooses a new coordinator. Lord, in your mercy…
With the World Council of
Churches we pray in earnest for the churches of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon,
and Palestine. Lord, in
your mercy…
