This past week, Amnesty
International released a report titled “Trigger Happy” citing the multiple
abuses of the Israeli military against Palestinian and international protesters.
Please let this report be a wake up call for the Israeli government, that its
transgressions will not be tolerated much longer, and please embolden the
international community to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians. Lord in
your mercy…
In the face of
recent legislation in the Israeli Knesset that seeks to divide the Palestinian Arab
citizensin Israel along religious lines, we pray for
strength in unity for the entire Palestinian community. Allow our witness
against such laws to lead to greater solidarity instead of division, and
empower us to speak in one prophetic voice for justice in this land. Lord in
your mercy…
The peace negotiations
in Palestine and Israel are nearing the end of their scheduled time; with only two
months left, little progress has been made and there is now pressure to extend
the deadline. Please bless the world leaders involved with courage to speak the
truth instead of the party line, to stand with justice even when it seems
unpopular, and to put aside pettiness and selfishness in order to build a just
peace.Lord in your mercy…
Lord, we praise
you for your faithfulness in the work of Sabeel, and ask your blessing on our
programs this week, including several group visits, a young women’s program,
and a program for Lent in Beit Jala. We also pray for blessing on the
screenings of the film The Stones Cry Out this week and next, including
at the Christ at the Checkpoint conference in Bethlehem. Lord in your mercy…
Lord, we pray
along with the World Council of Churches for the countries ofAndorra, Austria,
Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, and Switzerland. Lord in your mercy…
